Ahmedabad: Senior Congress leader Shankersinh Vaghela today asked the workers of NSUI and Youth Congress to build an army of one crore young supporters to fight the ruling BJP ahead of by-polls in Gujarat.

“Now, start working towards enrolling maximum number of youths into our movement against the BJP government. Make them realise that they are jobless because they voted for BJP.

Our movement is about changing their mindset. Connect with them and build an anti-BJP army of at least one crore youths,” Vaghela said, while addressing more than 1,000 youth Congress workers, students and NSUI members at Tagore Hall here today.

On the occasion of Rajiv Gandhi's birth anniversary, the Gujarat Congress launched two new initiatives to build their army of youngsters and give voice to unemployed youth as well as those who are hired on fix wage by the government.

Vaghela and other Congress leaders launched ‘U-Army' (www.uarmy.in) and ‘Gujarat Jan Sangharsh Sena' (www.jansanghasrhsena.com) during the function at Tagore Hall.  While addressing the youngsters and students, Vaghela called for better discipline and coordination among party cadres.

“As the name suggests, this two movements are like army, which thrives on discipline. This is an army to fight BJP.  With these two platforms, connect with maximum number of youth and compel the BJP government to change their anti-youth policies.

We will not succeed if we lack discipline,” he said.  The Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Assembly also admitted that many loyal supporters of Congress ditched the party during Lok Sabha elections and gave their votes to BJP.  “We lost in Gujarat because youth and women votes went to BJP.

They were misled by proactive canvassing and false promises. And still, they want to give some more time to BJP (at Centre), saying that it's too early to judge, as only 60 days have passed,” said Vaghela, while referring to Narendra Modi's earlier statement about not to judge him as only 60 days have passed.
