The ruling BSP in Uttar Pradesh, which had stayed away from the the Bharat Bandh called by opposition parties, held demonstrations at district headquarters across Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday to protest against hike in prices of petroleum products.

"UPA government has taken crores of money from capatalists for hiking prices. The BJP too had taken billions from capatalists. Both these parties are responsible for price rise due to which the common man is suffering," BSP national general secretary Naseemuddin Siddiqui alleged while addressing party workers in Lucknow.

He claimed that the hike in prices was a "conspiracy" of the UPA government which was playing in the hands of capatalists and industrialists.  Charging the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre with making the lives of the commom man miserable, Siddiqui said the central government has failed to curb inflation and keep its promise.  Senior party leaders and ministers attended demonstration in their respective constituencies.

BJP and other opposition parties like Shiv Sena, Samajwadi Party, JD-U, CPI-M, CPI, Forward Bloc, RSP, AIADMK, MDMK, TDP, BJD, JD(S), AGP, Akali Dal and INLD had called for 'Bharat Bandh' yesterday to protest against fuel price hike which disrupted normal life in the country. PTI
