Blaming the Congress-led UPA government for price rise, BSP supremo Mayawati today demanded a debate on the issue during the ongoing monsoon session of the Parliament.
"In the interest of the common people, BSP wants a debate on the issue of price rise during the ongoing monsoon session of the Parliament," Mayawati said in a statement in Lucknow.
Due to irresponsible attitude and anti-poor policy of the Centre, inflation rate has reached 18 per cent, she said, adding that due to wrong economic, export and import policies of the UPA government coupled with its intention to benefit capitalists, prices of foodgrains, sugar, pulses and oil were sky rocketing.
"The Centre's decision to reduce subsidy on petroleum products is a serious cause of concern as it has doubled the problems of the poor people," she said.
The decision to hike price of diesel was not only anti- farmer, but it would also have a direct impact on the agriculture product ultimately resulting in further increase in foodgrains prices, Mayawati said.
"The Centre neither has any policy to control the price rise nor its intentions are clear...BSP would strongly oppose in the Parliament and outside if the UPA government does not take concrete steps to check price rise," she said. PTI
