New Delhi: In a stinging attack, the Aam Aadmi Party today dubbed Delhi Police Commissioner B S Bassi a "senior BJP leader", hours after a case was registered against its Chandni Chowk MLA Alka Lamba for allegedly trespassing and damaging sweetmeat shop belonging to BJP legislator OP Sharma.

Reacting strongly, AAP leader Ashutosh said while a case was being registered against Lamba, Sharma was not even called once for interrogation.

Bassi refuted the allegations saying Delhi Police works as per the provisions of law and does not succumb to political pressure in handling cases.

"Had the shop belonged to an AAP MLA or a leader and a BJP MLA would had been attacked, the senior BJP leader (BS) Bassi sahab would have sent them to Tihar (jail) by now. In this case, OP Sharma is not even called for an interrogation. On the other hand, we are being threatened openly.

"It's better for you (Bassi) that you work as the chief spokesperson for the Prime Minister, but since you are also the Commissioner of Delhi, you should interrogate O P Sharma," Ashutosh said.

Lamba was attacked after a stone was hurled at her while under taking an anti-drug drive yesterday.

The party has alleged that the attack was carried out by a man working in Sharma's sweetmeat shop.

An FIR has also been registered in this case.

AAP also attacked Sharma for his "drug addict" comment against Lamba and said the language used by BJP MLA "clearly shows that he has no respect either for women or for the rule of law."

"Attack on Lamba and subsequent incidents show that the Delhi Police is partial and acting under pressure of the central government. No amount of futile attempts to divert attention can take away the seriousness of attack on a woman MLA in full public view, where police personnel were also present.

"Though it can be debated whether Alka should have entered the shop after being attacked, but how can it be used to divert the entire case?" the party said in a statement.
