New Delhi: In an attempt to make the ‘Lotus' bloom in Jammu and Kashmir and Northeast states, BJP's women cadre will reach out to women in these states to apprise them about the party's policies and welfare initiatives.

“We have planned a number of programmes to reach women in Jammu and Kashmir and Northeastern states. Our main focus is to increase party's footprint in these states,” BJP's Mahila Morcha chief Saroj Pandey told PTI.

BJP had secured highest number of seats in recent Lok Sabha elections from Jammu and Kashmir as the party bagged three of six seats including the one from Ladakh for the first time. The party had secured eight seats from Northeastern states.

BJP plans frequent blocks and Panchayat level meetings in these states. “There will be door-to-door campaigning. Our members have started interacting with the women there to know their problems and ways to solve them. We will ensure all help to them,” she said.

Pandey, a former Lok Sabha MP from Chhattisgarh's Durg, said party's women wing is laying special emphasis on four states where assembly elections are due later this year.

The terms of the Jammu and Kashmir and Jharkhand Assemblies will be over on January 19 and January 3, 2015 respectively. The tenure of Haryana Assembly is till October 27, this year and Maharashtra House term is due to be over on November 8, 2014.

“BJP is comparatively weak in Jammu and Kashmir and Northeast and certain southern states. Women wing will use all traditional and modern means of communication to convey BJP's pro-people governance model to people of these areas.

We are hopeful that BJP will gain from our efforts,” she said.  There will be intensive outreach programmes for women living in states like Odisha and Tamil Nadu, said Pandey.

“I have already started travelling to these states. We got a good response from women in Jammu and Kashmir and Northeastern states during my last meeting there. We are confident that their participation will increase in our next meetings,” she said.

The move comes following BJP President Amit Shah's advice to party's women cadre to propagate the works of the government to the public in order to mitigate their problems.

Women best understand the problems of the common people and can work effectively in strengthening the party's base across the country, especially in the South and Northeast where the party does not have a strong base, Shah had said.
