New Delhi: BJP on Saturday welcomed the Election Commission's decision of issuing a show cause notice to Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal for "prima facie" violating the Model Code of Conduct.
The EC issued the show cause notice to Kejriwal after referring to a complaint by BJP state unit President Satish Upadhyay over the AAP leader's remarks allegedly holding BJP responsible for inciting communal violence in Delhi.
"We welcome the EC's decision of taking cognisance of our complaint. The commission has taken cognisance of his (Kejriwal) attempts to inflict personal damage and tarnish my image. "He had remarked that BJP is inciting communal tensions in Trilokpuri and Bawana and the Commission has taken cognisance of that as well," Upadhyay said.
The EC has given the former Delhi Chief Minister time till 3 PM on January 20 to respond to the show cause, failing which the poll body will take a decision without any further reference to him.
The BJP state President said that the party is observing the developments closely and will take things to its logical conclusion. "We are keeping our eye on all the developments and will take things to logical conclusion on following the law of the land," he said.
