Jammu, Sep 18: The Jammu and Kashmir unit of BJP today said that it would oppose the proposed resolution demanding clemency for Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru, which would be introduced in the state Assembly later this month.
“Bhartiya Janata Party would oppose the resolution brought in J-K Assembly on Guru seeking clemency during forthcoming Assembly session beginning from September 26,” BJP MLA Ashok Khajuria told reporters here.
Flanked by the BJP chief spokesperson Jitender Singh, Khajuria said, “Assembly has rejected the Parliamentary Resolution of 1994 on J-K submitted by the BJP but at the same time resolution on clemency to Afzal Guru has been accepted, which clears the intentions of the ruling leadership in the state”.
Congress-NC coalition government is trying to suppress the nationalist voice in the state, BJP MLA said, adding that the saffron party would also expose Congress leadership supporting the resolution on Guru.
The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly will on September 28 debate and vote on a controversial resolution demanding clemency for the Parliament attack convict.
The resolution has been moved by Independent MLA Sheikh Abdul Rashid seeking clemency for Guru, who has been sentenced to death for his involvement in the attack on Parliament in December 2001. PTI
