Lucknow: BSP president Mayawati today accused BJP and Samajwadi Party of spreading hatred and communalism in the society as some of their leaders were "spewing venom" and demanded stern action against them.
"The manner in which (some) BJP and SP leaders are spreading communalism and hatred is most condemnable and unfortunate... this also proves how these two are serving their political interests through this public slugfest," Mayawati said in a party release issued here.
The BSP supremo said had this not been public posturing by these parties, the respective governments should have taken stern measures against those spreading the canard.
Alleging that both the central and state governments have been using their energy on benefitting a handful of people and indulging in wrong deeds, Mayawati said they have done nothing concrete for the crores of poor, labourers, farmers, dalits, backwards and religious minorities.
"To divert peoples attention from their failures, these parties and their governments have been raking up controversial issues like Ayodhya, which is pending in the court and also speaking against each other's religious leaders," she said.
Referring to "yoga programme" on June 21, Mayawati said the manner in which BJP and SP leaders are "spewing venom at each other, it is vitiating the atmosphere of the country and state".
Mayawati said Prime Minister Narendra Modi should deliberate whether such a situation will help in ushering in peace and stability in the country.
