New Delhi, March 15: The BJP Thursday criticised Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde's statement in parliament on the terror attack in Kashmir, saying he should have spoken about the government's moves to counter terror.

"The home minister must realise he is not a police constable that he would read out an FIR. We can get these details from the newspapers. Home minister should have explained what government is doing to counter terror," BJP spokesman Sayed Shahnawaz Hussain said.

Five Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) troopers and two terrorists were killed in Srinagar Wednesday when the guerrillas attacked a paramilitary picket in the first terror attack in the Kashmir Valley in three years.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader also took a jibe at Shinde for reading his statement twice in the Lok Sabha.

"Earlier we had a foreign affairs minister who read the wrong statements. Now the home minister is reading the same statement twice," he said.

The BJP also said there should be no dilution in the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) in Kashmir.

"No dilution in AFSPA would be accepted. In fact, they should give modern weapons to the CRPF," Hussain said.

In identical statements to both houses of parliament, Shinde said the two killed terrorists seemed to be foreign "fidayeen" (suicide attackers) and items made in Pakistan were found on their bodies.
