Kanpur: Senior BJP leader and Kanpur MP Murli Manohar Joshi has adopted a village from the neighbouring Akbarpur Lok Sabha constituency under Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojna as none of the villages in his constituency fulfilled the criteria for the scheme.
Joshi has adopted Sinhpur village from the Akbarpur Lok Sabha constituency under Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojna as none of the villages in Kanpur constituency fulfilled the criteria, BJP Kanpur district president Surendra Maithani said here today.
The rule to adopt a village under the scheme directs that a village should be deprived of basic facilities and population should be between 3,000 and 5,000.
According to local BJP leaders, none of the villages fulfilled the parameters for the scheme and this forced Joshi to adopt a village from the neighbouring constituency represented by BJP's Devendra Singh Bhole.
The population of Sinhpur, which is situated on the Kalyanpur-Bithur road, is around 7,000 and there are 2,700 voters in the village.
BJP leaders said that Joshi is scheduled to visit the village tomorrow and meet officials concerned.
The scheme was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his Independence day speech from the ramparts of the Red Fort on August 15.
