Dehradun: Ahead of assembly bypoll to three seats in Uttarakhand slated for July 21, the BJP leader from meshwar, Rekha Arya, switched over to the Congress.
Arya joined the party in the presence of PCC president Kishore Upadhyaya and Harish Rawat at AIIMS where the Chief Minister is recuperating after sustaining a neck injury during a flight to Delhi recently, CM's media incharge Surendra Kumar said here today.
Announcing her induction into the party, Rawat said Arya's switch-over to the Congress will strengthen the party ahead of the assembly bypoll to three seats in the state including Someshwar, Dharchula and Doiwala.
Arya has the reputation of being a social worker and a leader with a strong support base from Someshwar.
Bypoll to Someshwar was necessitated after sitting BJP MLA from the seat Ajay Tamta was elected to the Lok Sabha from Almora.
