Chennai: BJP, which is yet to find foothold in Tamil Nadu politics, today set an ambitious target of winning 122 plus seats in the 2016 Tamil Nadu assembly polls to come to power in the state.
"We will storm Fort St George (Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly) the way we captured Red Fort in Delhi. We will achieve one crore membership and come to power," BJP state president Tamilisai Soundararajan told party workers at its general council meeting here.
Earlier, Tamilisai's appointment as state chief was ratified.
Union Minister of State for Shipping Pon Radhakrishnan too urged cadres to work towards the goal of capturing power in Tamil Nadu.
The party has to work towards securing 122 plus seats out of a total of 234 seats in the assembly, the meet was told by the leadership.
Senior leader P Muralidhar Rao said Tamil Nadu politics was going through a transitional phase.
While AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa was convicted and jailed in an assets case, DMK is beset with "family politics" and facing "existential callenge. Congress party has almost disappeared from the Tamil Nadu scenario. A great vacuum is building up and there is void," he said.
