New Delhi: The BJP central parliamentary board today passed a resolution demanding Special Protection Group cover to its prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, in the wake of serial bomb blasts during his Patna rally on October 27.

Party spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said that the Bihar police did not offer cooperation to the Gujarat police advance team that had gone to Patna for the security arrangements. The Bihar police said they did not have clearance from the Centre to extend cooperation, he said.

Javadekar said the same security (SPG) given to the Prime Minister should be provided to Modi, in view of emerging threat perceptions.

He questioned the silence of Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice president Rahul Gandhi on this issue. Both Sonia and Rahul are SPG protectees.

Meanwhile, R P N Singh, minister of state for Home, said today that Modi has already been provided NSG cover and he also getrs extra security during programmes like rallies.

The serial blasts in Patna had left six dead and over 80 injured.

BJP spokesperson Javadekar said, there were no CCTV cameras, nor any metal detectors at Gandhi Maidan on the day of the rally. "Thanks to exemplary discipline shown by the audience, the situation was brought under control immediately", he added.
