New Delhi, Sep 15: BJP today demanded a probe into recovery of a bag containing Rs 10 lakh in the coupe of Sandeep Dikshit in an AC coach of Bhopal Express in which he was travelling even as the Congress MP clarified that it belonged to a friend of his.
“It is serious case and we demand a high level inquiry into it,” Delhi BJP president Vijender Gupta said.
Claiming that there is something “fishy”, Gupta said Dikshit's statement that the bag belonged to a friend of his “did not seem reliable”.
The bag containing the cash was recovered in the coupe of Dikshit, the East Delhi MP, in which he was travelling from Delhi to Bhopal.
According to police, the bag was handed over to the Government Railway Police (GRP) by the coach attendant shortly after the arrival of the train in Bhopal this morning.
Initially, it was believed that the bag belonged to Dikshit, son of Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, but he denied it saying he had nothing to do with the bag.
Dikshit told the GRP officials that the bag belonged to Jayesh Mathur who had requested him to keep the bag with him for safety reasons. Mathur was also travelling on the same train but in a different coach.
“He was in coach A1. He brought the bag and asked me to keep it safely as it had valuables and I agreed to keep it with me,” Dikshit said, adding “while deboarding we forgot to take the bag in a rush.” PTI
