New Delhi: BJP and Congress today welcomed the Supreme Court's direction over dissolution of Delhi Assembly and said Delhiites should immediately get an elected government.
“So far as BJP is concerned whenever the Lt. Governor will invite the BJP, we shall assess the situation and apprise the LG about our decision as soon as possible,” BJP chief Satish Upadhyay said in a statement.
The Delhi Congress said it was in favour of fresh elections.
“Delhiites should immediately get an elected government. Law and Order situation has been poor. People have been facing electricity and water crisis. In this situation, fresh election is the only option to resolve all problems,” DPCC chief spokesperson and senior leader Mukesh Sharma said.
Sharma also said, “As per constitutional norms, bypolls of three constituencies - Tughlakabad, Krishna Nagar and Mehrauli should be held within six months. To avoid bypolls, Delhi Assembly should be dissolved.”
Meanwhile, BJP also claimed that it also wants that the people should get elected government as soon as possible and development works should start.
“BJP wants that the people of Delhi should get elected government as soon as possible and development works should start. Now it seems that with the intervention of Central government, Lt. Governor will try all the possibilities of forming government which may be in the form of majority or minority government, coalition or re-election,” Upadhyay said.
Upadhyay also said that AAP and Congress party are responsible for the current situation “When these parties (AAP and Congress) formed government in Delhi, BJP had clarified that we do not have the required numbers,” Upadhyay said.
BJP had emerged the single largest party after the assembly polls in December last year with 32 seats including ally Akali Dal's one MLA in the 70-member House.
BJP fell four seats short of a simple majority and had refused to form government, saying it did not have the numbers and will not resort to any “unfair means” to take the reins.
AAP with 28 MLAs had later formed the government with support of eight Congress MLAs. AAP's strength has also come down to 27 after expulsion of party MLA Vinod Kumar Binny.
BJP's number came down to 28 in the House in May after three of its legislators Harsh Vardhan, Ramesh Bidhuri and Pervesh Verma were elected to Lok Sabha.
