New Delhi: Delhi BJP today alleged that the previous Sheila Dikshit-led Congress government did not allot a single flat to poor persons under the ‘Rajiv Ratna Aawas Yojna' in 2007-08 even though crores of rupees were collected by it in the name of registration fees for the same.

The allegation from BJP state unit chief Satish Upadhyay came as Delhi Development Authority (DDA) today announced the opening of its new housing scheme, offering over 25,000 flats.

“The previous Congress government collected crores of rupees as registration fees under the Rajiv Ratna Aawas Yojna in 2007-08 but not a single flat was allotted to any poor person,” Upadhyay said in a Delhi BJP release.

Referring to the DDA scheme, he said “both the general category and the middle class will benefit” from it as it is a feature of this scheme that flats will be allotted only to those who do not have any landed property in Delhi, either in their names or in the names of dependent children.

Upadhyay also said that the “Centre is considering a scheme for providing houses to the poor at various places in Delhi and an announcement will be made soon in this regard”.

He added that BJP would always try to see that flats and plots available with DDA are promptly allotted to the people.
