Bulandshahr: In remarks that could stoke a controversy, BJP leader Sangeet Som has said that Uttar Pradesh Minister Azam Khan would be sent to jail if the saffron party comes to power in the state after 2017 Assembly elections.
The MLA from Sardhana Assembly segment was addressing a public meeting in Kareena village under Jahangirabad Police Station yesterday.
"Azam Khan would be sent to jail if the BJP forms a government in the state after 2017 Assembly elections," Som said.
"Owing to appeasement policy of muslims, 400 communal riots ocurred during the current regime of Samajwadi Party in UP," he claimed.
He was here to muster support for a Zila Panchayat member for the coming panchayat elections scheduled on October 29.
Som, an accused in the Muzaffarnagar riots, was on October 18 "summoned" to BJP president Amit Shah's office where he was "reprimanded" and warned against making comments that "threaten to derail" the Modi government's "positive agenda".
