Patna:  Claiming that the separatist movement has gained currency in Jammu and Kashmir, Congress leader Gulam Nabi Azad today criticized the PDP-BJP government for letting participants at separatist leaders' rallies to wave Pakistani flags in the border state recently.

"There have been any number of instances when the participants have brazenly waved Pakistani flags at the rallies helped by separatist Hurriyat leaders in Jammu and Kashmir," he told reporters.

Alleging that the separatist movement has gained currency in Jammu and Kashmir ever since the PDP and BJP formed a coalition government in the state, Azad, a former chief minister of the state questioned the government's will to contain militancy in the border state.

"During my two and half years' stint as the chief minister, not a single Pakistani flag was waved anywhere in Jammu and Kashmir," he said.

"Not only that the separatist elements have reared their heads in Kashmir valley, Jammu region too has been on the boil with some Sikh youths displaying flags of 'Khalistan' during their protest over removal of a Khalistani militant leader's (Jarnail Singh Bhindrawale) posters," he said.
