New Delhi: The disciplinary action committee of Congress is yet to take action against former Union minister Shashi Tharoor for his praise of Narendra Modi and accepting the Prime Minister's invite to him to participate in ‘Swachh Bharat' campaign, as it is awaiting a report from the Kerala unit of the party.

Incensed by Tharoor's remarks, the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) had few days back decided to submit a report to the high command seeking action against the Thiruvanathapuram MP.

As per practice, if the party decides to take action against Tharoor, the matter will have to be decided by the three-member disciplinary action committee of AICC, comprising leaders Motilal Vora, A K  Antony and Sushilkumar Shinde.  The state unit first sends a complaint to the AICC general secretary in-charge of the state or directly to the disciplinary action committee. The party general secretary in-charge may also send the report to the discipinary committee.

When contacted, Vora said, “We have yet not recieved the complaint from either side so far. If it comes to us, we will see it.”

Signalling that disciplinary action would be contemplated against Tharoor if he kept on praising Modi's initiatives, KPCC vice president M M Hassan had a few days back in Thiruvananthapuram said, “As a first step, we are asking him to stop praising Modi as his stance went totally against the Congress's ideals.”

KPCC president V M Sudheeran said praises lavished on Modi repeatedly by Tharoor had hurt Congress and UDF workers who worked sincerely and tirelessly for his victory in the Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha constituency for a second time.  A senior party functionary had, however, said the party may not prefer any drastic action against Tharoor but also made it clear that the MP should keep in mind that that he holds a responsible position in the party and party interests should come first before he airs his views.
