New Delhi: In a rare display of warmth for Indian Prime Minister, Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott is going to host a grand reception for Narendra Modi at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on November 18.
The reception will be held just after the G-20 summit in Brisbane.
The Melbourne Cricket Ground can house over a lakh people but only a select audience, around 400 to 500 in number, consisting of prominent Australian politicians, Indians and cricket stars have been invited to this reception.
“Cricket is a shared passion of Australia and India. I thank PM @ TonyAbbottMHR for hosting me at the iconic Melbourne Crickett Ground,” said Modi on Twitter.
It's the first bilateral visit of Modi to Australia by an Indian PM in 28 years.
A reception is also being hosted for Modi at Sydney Olympic Park on November 17. Modi will also be addressing the Australian Parliament in Canberra.
