Patna, April 16: Bihar Deputy Chief Minister and senior BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi Tuesday said the attack on Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi by the ruling alliance partner Janata Dal-United (JD-U) was "unfortunate and objectionable".

"It was unfortunate and objectionable the way JD-U leaders attacked Narendra Modi," the Bharatiya Janata Party leader said here while reacting sharply against the targeting of the Gujarat chief minister without naming him at the JD-U's national conclave in Delhi April 13-14.

"We should focus our energy to expose the Congress-led UPA (United Progressive Alliance) government and dislodge it from power instead of diverting from our goal," he added.

Sushil Kumar Modi, considered a supporter of continued partnership of the BJP and JD-U in Bihar, said the BJP's core committee on the state and the party's national president Rajnath Singh would meet in Delhi on April 18 to discuss the political situation in the state.

While the JD-U is opposed to Narendra Modi as the prime ministerial candidate, there has been growing clamour in the ranks of the BJP for projecting him as the candidate for the post.

The JD-U has asked the BJP to name its prime ministerial candidate by the year-end.
