August 3-4, 2014: Nepal
Nepal Prime Minister Sushil Koirala, who was in New Delhi during Modi's swearing-in ceremony in May, received his Indian counterpart at the Tribhuvan International Airport.
"The Prime Minister NarendraModi reaches Nepal, first bilateral trip by an Indian Prime Minister to Nepal in 17 years. PM Narendra Modi is being welcomed by dignitaries at Kathmandu airport," the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) said in a tweet.
“I have returned to this beautiful country as a friend and I am happy to come here as Prime Minister,” said Modi in Nepali language before continuing his speech in Hindi. Modi recalled that he had visited Nepal as pilgrim long ago.
PM Modi forged a new relationship with Nepal and started a "new chapter" in bilateral ties that will serve as a model and catalyst for regional partnership between the two countries.
