New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal along with three others will take oath as member of the New Delhi Municipal Council on March 20.
“We have received the official notification from the Ministry of Home Affairs about the Delhi CM and Cantonment MLA Surinder Singh being nominated to the Council. I have also sent them letters conveying the same. They will now take oath on March 20,” NDMC Chairman Jalaj Srivastava said.
According to NDMC Act, MLAs from New Delhi and Delhi Cantonment constituencies automatically become members of the New Delhi Municipal Council. Once the Union Home Ministry notifies the NDMC of the appointment, the members are officially sworn in.
“The two members had taken oath as NDMC members on January 31 last year. However, with fresh elections, they will have to be re-inducted into the Council,” he said.
Two others who will be taking oath as the council members are Punya Salila Srivastava, Secretary of Directorate of Education and Rakesh Singh, Joint Secretary (UT).
“Singh was nominated to the council in November last year but he has not taken oath yet,” Srivastava said. The Council is also scheduled to present its Budget for the next financial year on March 25.
