RS: I want to raise a serious issue. Drug trafficking is a big issue in Amritsar and adjoining areas. Children of many families are involved in this and it has ruined many families. Many people requested me to ask this question to you. I have a report of BSF that says that last year 322 Kg of heroine was seized on the border. This year, 200 Kg of Heroine is already seized. The situation is getting from bad to worse. AJ: I believe that it's a curse. It's Narco-terrorism that is happening here. I have written twice on this issue in my blogs. We need to increase the scrutiny at borders 10 times. What is the reason that these drugs are coming from Afghanistan and Pakistan. The second thing is that we have to increase the inter-state vigilance as well. At the same time, you need to create jobs because the mind of an unemployed person becomes the house of devils. Jobs can be created when the economy gets vibrant beyond agriculture. Jobs can be created through tourism and focus on SMEs. In our party manifesto, we have mentioned skill development. It's important for children to learn English so that we can have IT hubs in Punjab. It has already reached Gurgaon. There is no problem in bringing this to Punjab. RS: Will you blame Akalis for having allowed things to come to this stage despite being in power for 7 years. AJ: See, border security is not with state governments. They have control over police only. Therefore, I believe that it's a crime against the nation irrespective of which party is in the party. Therefore, it should not be looked upon from party angle. RS: When Rahul Gandhi came to Punjab and raised this question, the Akalis laughed at him.AJ: To say that 70 pc of youth take drugs amounts to making the issue light. He should talk about the problem of drugs but we are not experts of putting out a figure. If our party comes to power at centre, we will ensure more vigilance for checking this narco terrorism than we'll have for checking terrorism.RS: The other feedback that I received from people of Amritsar especially from rural areas is the goondaism of politicians. Those who are in power are involved in extortion.AJ: In this country from centre to states, all police and investigative agencies should be released from political grip. Be it local police, CBI or ED. There should be only one commitment of these agencies- what is it that the law is saying? When the influence of politicians increase in these agencies or when the bureaucratic control increases then it has its impact on their independence.RS: Arun ji, people like Bikram Majithia handle your election campaign and say that I will twist the neck of Amarinder singh when he comes.AJ: It's very unfortunate that in Punjab's politics, there is a big need to control the language being used and it should be done from all sides. You took one name but what kind of language is being used by the other side? People tell me why are you using such civilized language , why don't you respond in the same language? I am in parliament for so many years. I had made a rule the first day that I will speak on issues and not on individuals. Nobody ever disturbed me in parliament. Even my Congress friends listen to me. But you can't blame any one side for commenting on individuals. Ask the other side as well.RS: I will ask them when they come. But Prakash Singh Badal said that push Captain in such a manner that he reaches Pakistan. And then he says that his heart is in Pakistan. AJ: Let me tell you one thing. A little of joke, sarcasm and light comments are permissible in politics. As far as sardar Prakash singh Badal is concerned, I have seen very few politicians like him as far as behavioral decency is concerned. I ask my friends both from Congress and BJP to learn from him about how to work hard and how to deal with people with etiquette. I have never seen him getting provoked and crossing the line.RS: He is CM and he thinks that you will be the next Finance Minister and that will help the govt and the economy will improvise. Commenting on this, Amarinder Singh wondered if you have got the machine for printing currency notes so that you could resolve economic problems of Punjab. AJ: See, I will have no machine for printing notes. And I'm not aware of what responsibility I'll get. I can't even say whether I'll get any responsibility at all. But I want to say one thing. The first three Akali-BJP governments were dismissed using Art 356. What kind of attitude was this towards a state govt. You won't allow them to complete 5 years. After that, you discriminated against the govt as if opposition governments don't even exist. If NDA govt is formed under Modi ji's leadership then I'll work for Punjab getting all its rights. RS: Arun Ji, you are taking a tough responsibility. The debt on Punjab govt has crossed 1 lakh crore. You are talking about development of Amritsar. In last 7 years, around 18,700 industries have closed down. How will new investments come? How will new jobs be created?AJ: I'll tell you. This is one sided data. Tell me, what is the debt on central government? Is there any government in this country that is not under debt? And debt is given to a state that has creditworthiness. A bankrupt govt never gets any debt. Congress governments in states also get debt. So the opposition always makes allegations of state governments running on debt. It's their propaganda. Don't take them seriously. Second, is the economic environment of the country being controlled by Punjab govt? Who raised the interest rates to 14 percent from 7 percent, which was during Vajpayee govt's time that made the industry unviable? Who is responsible for shutting down coal mines that resulted in electricity rates getting hiked by 1.5 times? If you will make the coal and electricity dearer and increase the tax rates, squeeze the state govts so that they could also increase tax rates, how will things improve. I'm of the opinion that we should have lower tax rates. Until and unless we make India a low cost manufacturing hubs, industries will keep closing down and this will happen across states.RS: These things sound good but the fact is that debt is increasing on states and industries are closing down but the reports suggest that the number of hotels belonging to Badal family is increasing. AJ: Rajat ji, you got things investigated. You got trials done. Captain Saheb won only one election and that was in 2002. Otherwise he is a serial loser. In the only election that he won, he had said that half of Australia belongs to Prakash Singh Badal. And they couldn't prove anything, not even 1 inch of land. Just because your channel has got bigger or Arun jaitley's assets have increased does not mean that it has been done through wrong means. If a person's business is running well then it's good. He is not earning through politics. He is earning by running hotels. Somebody is earning by running institutions or news channels. Otherwise everybody will become a full time politicians with no source of income and start earning from politics. RS: You are the only person who is losing by becoming a politician.AJ: Then Let people vote me for that.RS: I came to know that the campaign of Narendra Modi –Abki Baar Modi Sarkaar- was prepared under your guidance. Is the entire campaign being run for one person? AJ: See, When you plan political campaigns, you aim to get maximum votes. I have been part of party's campaign for last 20-25 years. We deliberated upon many slogans and selected the one that was more acceptable from political point of view. When it was going to be a Modi led BJP campaign then it was better to make the two synonymous. When it becomes catchy then obviously it helps. The reason is that whatever polls we conducted, we found Modi's stature looking taller in each of them. And it's natural that we want to extract maximum benefit from that. RS: Rahul Gandhi has been raising it in his election speeches. He says that elections are being held not for India but one person only. And that this party has got just one person.AJ: It's not like that. We feel proud in projecting that one person. There was a time when Congress used to project Nehru, India and Rajiv. Today they think they don't have any such personality with them, they are not doing that.RS: In their campaign and slogan, they talk about taking everyone together. AJ: See, every party will have to carry everybody together. But the voter also needs to be taken along. The voter seems to be drifting away. RS: Rahul said that after watching the projection of Modi, he looks like Hitler, a dictator. AJ: Even earlier, he and his mother had said the same thing. In my bog, I had compared 26 June 1975 of India with 1930s of Germany when Nazis were in power. Emergency was imposed there, it was imposed here. 25-point programme was introduced in Germany while in India 20-point programme was introduced. Speeches were almost same. In India, the slogan was – India is Indira and Indira is india. In Germany, it was- Adolf Hitler is Germany and Germany is Adolf Hitler. So after I compared the two eras, they stopped saying that. Now that they have started it again, it needs to be answered.RS: He says that you and Narendra Modi are making the people of India “ullu (owl)” by presenting this Gujarat model.AJ: He should not use this word for voters even if he is unhappy with them. The voters are very wise and they have love for the nation somewhere in their hearts.RS: He has quoted figures. He has said that an industrialists was given 45,000 acres of land was given at the rate of Rs. 1 per acre, the cost of a toffee. AJ: It's factually incorrect. Why is it that the farmers didn't launch any agitation against the SEZs of Gujarat? Don't forget that a large part of Gujarat consists of coastline that is uncultivable. And all the SEZs are coming up near the coast on uncultivable lands. Today 18 percent of India's industries are in Gujarat. The industrial sector in India is going down and shifting to Gujarat and this is the main reason. Coming to agriculture, which agricultural states are moving forward? Those who have interlinked waters like MP and Gujarat. If people were not happy in these states, they would not have voted to power these BJP governments for 20 consecutive years.(Contd...)
