Hyderabad: Alleging that the ruling TDP-BJP combine has "deceived" the people of Andhra Pradesh on promises like granting special status to the state, Congress yesterday filed police complaints on the issue.

Congress leaders gave complaints at different police stations in the state against the ruling coalition, accusing it of "cheating" and "deceiving" the people of Andhra by not fulfilling promises the two parties gave ahead of elections.

The leaders claimed they gave "evidence" like election manifestos and other such material of the two parties at the time of Assembly election last year to back their charges.

The complaints were filed in Anantapur, Vijayawada and Guntur districts, among other places. Today was the first day of filing complaints and the programme will continue for the next two days (September 8 & 9) to cover the entire state.

The promise of special status was made to Seemandhra (new Andhra Pradesh) by the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in Parliament during the state's bifurcation last year.

Financial assistance for backward districts and the new capital city, setting up a Railway zone and establishing central institutions in the residuary State were among a slew of promises made last year.

"We will be lodging complaints in all police stations in Andhra Pradesh on September 7, 8 and 9. We will give evidences like election manifestos, the assurances given by Chandrababu Naiduji, Modiji in a public meeting at Tirupati and how they are diluting and making a U-turn on their promises," AP Congress President N Raghuveera Reddy had told PTI .

Congress would also submit the "dying declarations" of those who allegedly committed suicide over the Centre not granting special status to AP, he had said.
