Did not attend rally because of low turnout: Hazare

New Delhi: Two days after he left Mamata Banerjee red-faced, anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare today said he had skipped the ‘joint' rally here with the Trinamool Congress chief because even 4000 people had not come

Hazare, who had earlier endorsed Banerjee for the Prime Ministership as she had accepted his 17-point programme, today said respected her but did not support her party.

“I have respect for Mamata. Of all the Chief Ministers in the country, she is the best. Her sacrifice, her character, her ideology.

I supported her and not the party,” Hazare said.

He said he had supported Banerjee so that a stable government is formed but added that he had not gone ahead because of some people.

The anti-graft activist did not feel the future of the country was secure if any of the candidates from any of the parties currently in the race becomes the Prime Minister.
