Hyderabad: Political parties in Andhra Pradesh Tuesday observed the Telangana "liberation day" by hoisting the national flag at party offices and calling for an army formation of Telangana state.
The ruling Congress, the main opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP), Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Left parties hoisted flags at their headquarters.
It was on this day in 1948 that then Hyderabad state was merged with the Indian Union following India's military action, popularly known as "Operation Polo".
The parties held similar functions in nine other districts of Telangana.
Police arrested some BJP workers at a few places when they tried to hoist the national flag at government offices.
