New Delhi: After UPA's exit from the Central government, Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan may now return from unofficial exile to attend government events.
Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has invited Bachchan to the International Film Festival of India in Goa as a Chief Guest. The Ministry has also invited Hollywood – cum Chinese star Jackie Chan to grace the event.
Around three years back, MIB had invited him to be the Guest of Honour at IFFI. Amitabh initially accepted the invitation but for the fear of upsetting Congress President Sonia Gandhi, his name was removed from the list. Kamal Hassan replaced him as the Chief Guest.
The UPA government was severely criticized. During UPA rule Amitabh received National Film Award for spectacular performance in ‘Paa'. This decision was under the jurisdiction of the Jury panel yet, the committee was anxious of their proposal being rejected by the government.
Amitabh shares cordial relations with PM Modi. He promotes tourism in Gujarat without charging a penny from the State government. There is a flick of hope that the new government will accord the legendary Bachchan the honour he deserves.
In the wake of Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to India, China will be the focus country in International Film Awards in India. The fest will be held from 20 to 30 November in Goa
