New Delhi: A day after a special CBI court exonerated BJP chief Amit Shah in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case, CPI today expressed concern over the "gross manipulation" of CBI by ruling politicians and urged courts to take suo motu action to stop "gross misuse" of investigation and judicial processes.

"Concerned judicial institutions, including higher courts need to take suo motu action to halt this gross misuse of the investigation and judicial process," CPI said in a statement.

The party said it is obvious that the CBI has diluted the charge sheet and deliberately failed to present the facts before the CBI court that issued the discharge order.

"The CPI Secretariat expresses grave concern on the gross manipulation of the CBI by the ruling politicians. The latest in the series is discharging of BJP Chief Amit Shah in the fake encounter case.

"It is obvious that the CBI has diluted the charge sheet and deliberately failed to present the facts before the CBI court that issued the discharge order," the statement said.

In a major relief to BJP president Shah, a special CBI court on Tuesday had discharged him in the case of Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter killing in 2005.

CPI alleged that BJP is using all "means and avenues" to "white-wash" the grave crimes like the 2002 communal pogrom and series of fake encounters "that were committed when Narendra Modi was Chief Minister of Gujarat".

"Presentation of the Nanavati Commission Report on 2002 communal riot was also part of this plan of manipulation," the party alleged.

"In this case (Sohrabuddin case), the BJP government has already re-appointed a number of accused police officers though they have not been discharged and are only on bail... The ruling BJP's intention became clear from these actions that led to discharging of the BJP president," the party said.
