Lucknow: The Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati is furious after UP chief minister Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday opened a newly-constructed railway overbridge overlooking her official bungalow on the posh Mall Avenue here.
The 656 meter long overbridge, constructed at a cost of Rs 42 crore in record time, overlooks Mayawati's official bungalow, which also houses the BSP party headquarters. The construction work began in June last year.
The project was shelved for nearly eight years during Mayawati's regime, but chief minister Akhilesh Yadav ordered work on the project in right earnest.
The local administration says, people living near Mall Avenue railway crossing were facing problems because of frequent traffic snarls, and to obviate this, the railway overbridge has been built.
The BSP says, there are several railway crossings in Lucknow, which do require flyovers, but the Akhilesh Yadav government has concentrated on Mayawati's residence.
Mayawati today condemned the Akhilesh government for construction of the railway overbridge which passes in front of the BSP office in the posh Mall Avenue area, calling it symbolic of "mean, disgusting and cheap mentality" which, she said, needs to be denounced.
On being queried if on coming to power she would do the same by getting one made overlooking the residence of SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav, Mayawati quipped she "will reply when the time comes".
