New Delhi: National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, on his trip on June 16-17, will push Myanmar to act against militant leader SS Khaplang and his organisation NSCN (K) by presenting evidence of the group's role in the attack on the army last week.
According to a report in Hindustan Times, the NSA will also discuss ways to improve security collaboration between the two countries including strengthening of a 2014 memorandum of understanding (MoU) on border cooperation.
NSA's visit comes in the backdrop of the Indian Army's operation against the insurgents inside Myanmar on Wednesday. The insurgents were believed to be involved in the ambush against the army convoy on June 4 that left 18 soldiers dead.
Doval's main focus would be to convince the Myanmar authorities of the dangers the NSCN(K) poses to India and asking them to act against Khaplang who is receiving treatment at a hospital in Myanmar.
Newly floated United National Liberation Front of West South East Asia (UNLFWSEA) that comprises five rebel groups from the north-eastern region, including the ULFA, PLA and NDFB(S) is believed to be headed by Khaplang.
The group has reportedly set up a unified camp in Myanmar's Taga area bordering India.
Apart from discussing NSCN (K)'s role in the Manipur attack, NSA will also hold talks to expedite information sharing in the fight against insurgency, arms smuggling as well as drug, human and wildlife trafficking
Khaplang, a Hemi Naga from Myanmar, abandoned a 14-year-old ceasefire agreement with India last month, the NSCN (K), however, continues to abide by a similar pact with his native nation.
