Hyderabad : All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen chief Assaduddin Owaisi today announced that his party will contest in the upcoming Bihar assembly elections.
Speaking to the media, Owaisi said His party will contest elections in the Seemanchal region of Bihar.”
" Seemanchal region has been ignored by all major parties who are contesting in Bihar," he added.
Seemanchal region constitutes mainly four districts of Bihar- Ararai, Purnea, Kishanganj and Katihar, and 37 assembly seats with a sizeable Muslim population.
The announcement would be a major cause of concern for the RJD-JD(U) grand alliance which was betting high on the Muslim vote in the region.
Assembly polls in Bihar will be held in 5 phases starting October and ending November 5. Results will be declared on November 8.
