Chennai: Distressed after Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa was jailed for corruption, a 45-year-old AIADMK member allegedly committed suicide in Tamil Nadu Sunday, police said.
Babu hanged himself from a tree close to his house near the temple town of Kanchipuram.
According to police, Babu was upset after a court in Bangalore Saturday sentenced Jayalalithaa to four years in prison for amassing wealth illegally when she was the chief minister in 1991-96.
”Babu may have taken his life because of that,” a police officer said.
J Jayalalithaa, one a veteran actress who ventured successfully into politics was Saturday convicted by a local court in Bangalore and sentenced to 4 years imprisonment for misappropriation of funds during her tenure as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
