New Delhi: In the wake of the row over the controversial remarks by Union Minister Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti, BJP has decided to carefully choose the leaders who would be holding public meetings for the party in the national capital ahead of the polls here.

“After Sadhvi Jyoti's controversial remarks, the party's image been hurt in the national capital. To ensure that such episodes are not repeated, the party has decided to carefully choose the MPs for its public meetings,” said a senior BJP leader.

The BJP leader also said that during the campaigning for elections, rival parties would definitely raise the issue to try and corner the party.

“We don't want to give another chance to our opponents Congress and AAP. During the selection (of leaders for holding rallies), we will carefully check their background to see if they were ever involved in any major controversy due to their remarks as the party doesn't want to take any risk,” he added.

Jyoti had stoked a controversy by allegedly asking voters to elect the “sons of Rama” and not “illegitimate sons” at a BJP rally in Dwarka on Monday evening.

The Minister of State for Food Processing, who was inducted into the Union Cabinet last month, has already expressed “deep regret” and apologised for her comments, but the opposition has been demanding her sacking.

Proceedings in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were disrupted for the second straight day today as the Opposition sought Jyoti's sacking.
