New Delhi: Attacking Bollywood actor Aamir Khan over his remarks on ‘rising intolerance', ruling BJP today termed his statement an act of ‘moral crime'.
Expressing concern over rising intolerance in the country in last 6-8 months, Aamir Khan had disclosed that his wife had recently asked him if they should leave the country.
“If Aamir Khan had considered that he is an icon, he would not have said that. For the sake of his own name, Aamir has defamed the name of our country. It is a moral crime,” BJP spokesperson MJ Akbar said.
He added that instead of discussing the tolerance issue with his friends, Aamir should talk to 125 crore people about the country they live in.

Adding that Ulemas of 73 countries had praised India for religious freedom, Akbar asked, “Where does Aamir want to go? Washington or London?”
Attacking the critics of the government, Akbar said, “Some political powers are against the development of our country. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has always talked about inclusive growth. These powers may feel glad with these comments but the country is perturbed.”
“Aamir is a relative of Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad whose message was that the country belonged to everybody,” he added.
Aamir's intolerance comments created a stir in the society with sections of political parties criticising him, and some supporting him. Aamir had shared that his wife Kiran Rao suggested leaving India in the face of rising intolerance.
