New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today morning expressed his ‘strong displeasure' towards the reports stating that a temple being built in his name on the outskirts of Rajkot.

The Prime Minister also urged the concerned authorities not to do so as it is against the tradition of this great nation.

“Have seen the news about a Temple being built in my name. I was appalled. This is shocking & against India's great traditions,” he tweeted.

“Building such Temples is not what our culture teaches us. Personally, it made me very sad. Would urge those doing it not to do it,” he added.

Several media reports suggested that a temple dedicated to Modi on the outskirts of Rajkot was all set to be ‘inaugurated' on Sunday. The temple has an idol of Modi in the sanctum.

Oum Yuva Group, an informal organisation of BJP workers and youths, has built the temple.

Volunteers said that they have been worshiping Modi by placing his photograph at the same place, where idol has been put, for the last 11 years.

“We have an idol of Modi sculpted. The idol will be installed in the temple on February 15. We have planned a mass-marriage ceremony on the same day,” Shankar Patel, president of Oum Yuva Group said.

The temple looks more like a hut with wicket-walls. It is located on Kotharia road.

Modi's marble idol has been sculpted by a sculptor from Orissa.

Patel said that they have spent Rs 1.7 lakh on this project.
