Damoh (MP), Jun 25 : Barring a few minor incidents, the polling for Jabera Assembly constituency today remained peaceful with nearly 65 per cent voters having exercised their franchise.
“Nearly 65 per cent votes were polled in Jabera constituency with no major incident of violence reported from anywhere,” the sources in State Election Commission said.
At Khamaria polling booth, some unidentified persons who had arrived in as many as 10-11 vehicles, tried to influence the ongoing voting process but beat a retreat soon after additional police force reached the spot, the sources said.
The bypoll was necessiated following the demise of former minister and senior Congress legislator Ratnesh Solomon. His daughter Dr Tanya Solomon contested on the Congress ticket while BJP fielded Dashrath Singh Lodhi, who had lost from the same constituency in the year 2008, besides 17 other candidates in the frey.
Meanwhile, Congress workers alleged that BJP MLA Shailendra Jain tried to influence the voters at Nohta following which poll officials asked him to leave the place.
The counting of votes will be held on June 29, the sources added. PTI
