Ludhiana:Navjot Kaur Sidhu, BJP MLA and wife of cricketer-turned-MP Navjot Singh Sidhu, today articulated her anger against her party's ally Akali Dal and said she will not contest the next Assembly polls on BJP ticket if the alliance continues.
Kaur said she had joined politics with high dreams of serving the state and the poor but her hopes stand shattered because of the "humiliation" and "step-motherly" treatment meted out to her by Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal and his Deputy Sukhbir Singh Badal.
"I will not be contesting (on BJP ticket) if there is an alliance with the SAD," said the Amritsar-East MLA. She alleged that she was always "humiliated" by the Chief Minister and his son, who is the Deputy Chief Minister.
"Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal has been publicly saying that I am like his daughter, but the truth is that I have always received treatment given to a step daughter," she told reporters here.
Kaur said she had never been accommodated whenever she approached the state government for any project. Replying to a question, she said, "we (she and her husband) love Punjab and want to serve it".
Her husband, a three-time Lok Sabha member, was recently nominated by the Modi government to Rajya Sabha and he took oath as the first-time member of the Upper House on Thursday.
Kaur was here to meet the parents of 25-year-old Inderpal Singh Ahuja, who had allegedly committed suicide due to alleged police torture and harassment here on Friday.
She strongly condemned the alleged police harassment and criticised the state government for failing to maintain law and order and save precious lives.
She suggested that all investigations and questioning by the police in the state should be recorded by CCTV cameras. Kaur appreciated and hailed the approach of newly-appointed Punjab BJP President Vijay Sampla in taking the party workers' case to the government and hearing their grievances.
