Kolkata: On expected lines, the Trinamool Congress swept all across West Bengal as Election Commission officials counted the millions of votes polled in the staggered assembly elections. Its candidates led in 213 of the 294 places where trends were available.
The Left and the Congress were at a distant second spot, leading in 30 and 40 constituencies respectively. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was leading in 7 places.
As per the trends, Chief Minister and TMC chief Mamata Banerjee is leading by 1,499 votes in Bhawanipur Assembly constituency over her nearest rival Congress candidate Deepa Dasmunshi.
The overall voter turnout was around 80 per cent. Prohibitory order under Section 144 has been imposed in the 100- meter radius of each of the counting centres.
For counting, the Election Commission had appointed 4 lakh personnel who will man 4, 932 tables in 394 rooms at the counting centres.
