Congress vice-president and Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat have been booked for allegedly violating the model code of conduct.
According to reports, a case was registered against the two leaders and party candidate Brahmaswaroop Brahmachari for holding a road show here last Sunday that violated the model code of conduct imposed by the Election Commission.
The case was registered against them as they had EC's permission to end their road show from Bhagwanpur to Haridwar by 7 PM, but it went on till late in the night with Rahul's convoy reaching Har Ki Pairi by midnight.
Party workers even danced to DJ music sparking tension in the area, town police station in charge Anil Joshi said.
City Magistrate and returning officer Jai Bharat Singh reported the matter to the poll body.
On the direction of the Commission, a case was registered against Rahul, Rawat and party candidate from Haridwar Brahmaswaroop Brahmachari on Monday night, Joshi said.
Meanwhile, voting for the 69 seats of the Uttarakhand state assembly began at 8 am amid tight security. This is the fourth assembly poll in the hill state where 75,13,547 voters will decide the fate of 628 candidates.
