Alka Rai, the widow of murdered BJP MLA Krishna Nand Rai, has said that Mayawati’s decision to field Mukhtar Ansari, who is accused of killing her husband, exposed how BSP was sheltering a criminal despite a court trail pending against him.
According to a report in The Economic Times, Alka Rai also slammed Mulayam Singh Yadav for protecting a criminal like Mukhtar Ansari.
“Mukhtar Ansari and his family deserting the Samajwadi Party and getting tickets from BSP exposes how both Mayawati and Mulayam Singh Yadav shelter Ansari despite a court trial against him for murder of MLA Krishna Nand Rai,” Alka Rai told ET.
She also alleged that Mayawati offered ticket to Mukhtar Ansari as part of her vote-bank politics.
“Mukhtar and his brother Afzal killed my husband, an MLA and Mayawati now says the cases against Mukhtar are false! Mukhtar is still in jail for the murder and has been given the ticket to fight from jail. Does Mayawati know that the ongoing court trial against them is nearing completion? No less than the CBI had charge-sheeted them. Now just for vote-bank politics, Mayawati has done this. How will she ensure safety for anyone?” she added.
Alka Rai won Mahmoodabad seat, represented by her husband, in 2006 by-poll after Rai was murdered in 2005. She has been fielded again from here by BJP.
Alka Rai will face the sitting MLA of Mahmoodabad and Mukhtar’s brother, Sibgatullah Ansari who has got a BSP ticket.
Mukhar ansari has got the BSP ticket from Mau Assembly constituency.
Alka Rai further alleged that Ansari brothers are criminal elements who need support of either SP or BSP for committing crime.
“Last year, Ansari family merged their party with SP. Now given the dispute between Akhilesh Yadav and Shivpal Yadav, Ansari brothers knew unki wahan daal nahi gal rahi hai. They are criminal elements and know that to keep committing crimes; they need support of either SP or the BSP. BJP wants to uproot their crime factory,” Alka Rai told ET.
