Senior Congress leader and former union minister P Chidambaram today said that Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti should snap ties with alliance partner BJP as clamour is growing for the imposition of President’s rule in the state.
In a series of tweets, Chidambaram said that the people of the state have realised that the PDP-BJP coalition government is a disaster.
He added that the Mehbooba is left with only one way and that is to snap ties with BJP and make peace with the people of the state.
"Glad more people have realised PDP-BJP (Peoples Democratic Party-Bharatiya Janata party) government is a disaster," Chidambaram tweeted.
"The honourable course for... CM of J&K (Mehbooba Mufti) is to snap the coalition with BJP and make peace with the people," he added.
He also added that it would be the right course even if it leads to imposition of President's rule lin the state.
"If that means a spell of Governor's rule, so be it," Chidambaram said.
The Kashmir Valley has been on the boil since the Srinagar-Budgam Lok Sabha by-election of April 9 when security forces shot dead eight protesters.
A re-poll on April 13 also saw violence including the killing of a youth in Srinagar.
