Hyderabad: In a first, Telangana Chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao is set to make his son K Taraka Rama Rao the first 'foreign minister' of the state.

According to a report in The Times of India, who already holds key portfolios in Telangana government, including plum Information Technology (IT), Industries & Commerce, Municipal Administration and Urban Development, will also spearhead Telangana's outreach to the rest of the world to attract investment.

Telangana's foreign ministry will oversee NRI affairs and the state's relationship with various countries. The ministry will promote Telangana as an investment destination and market it as the best among the industrialised states in India.

It is important to note here that as per the federal set-up of India, external affairs is the exclusive preserve of the Union government.

"It is a long pending demand from Telangana diaspora across the world that state must have a dedicated ministry for foreign and NRI affairs. The ministry will promote Telangana as an investment destination and market it the best among the industrialized states in India. And KTR is best suited for the purpose," Bhuvanagiri MP Bura Narasaiah Goud told Times of India.

News portal Telugu360 adds that the NRI policy will be tabled for discussions on July 16th. KTR will take charge of the 'foreign ministry' after the policy is finalized.
