Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, who already enjoys Z Plus security cover and travels in bulletproof Toyota Land Cruiser Prados, will soon be moving to his new official residence in Begumpet.
The sprawling bungalow that spreads across over one lakh square feet has cost several lakh rupees, and that shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. For, the new official residence of the Chief Minister will house bulletproof bathrooms and bedrooms.
According to a Times of India report, the two bedrooms, the CM’s and that of his son KTR, have been fitted with high-quality bulletproof glass. The measure was taken to minimise the possibility of a sniper assault on KCR since some parts of the house are in line of sight and vulnerable, it said.
“One cannot take chances with the CM’s security. While planning the security cover of VIPs in particular, it is important to negate every possible threat option. This house is going to be the official bungalow, therefore, the extra money spent on security will not go waste,” a senior Telangana police officer told the daily.
So much for modesty!
Besides, 50 heavily armed security personnel will be guarding the CM’s official residence round-the-clock. The report further said that metal detectors have been installed at the gates and visiting persons will have to deposit their metal belongings at the gate before entering the house.
The house has been constructed by Shapoorji Pallonji Group.
The Chief Minister is expected to move to his new official residence tomorrow.
This is not the first time that the Telangana CM has been in the news for his extravagant ways. In December last year, KCR drew flak for conducting a religious ceremony costing around Rs 7 crore. Critics had flayed the CM for a ceremony of such magnitude even as farmers in the region were reeling under poverty and committing suicide.
The CM, however, defended his decision, saying that the money being spent was not from the government coffers.
