New Delhi: After requesting Home Minister Rajnath Singh for a court-monitored SIT inquiry in the mysterious death case of Sunanda Pushkar, BJP leader Dr Subramanian Swamy today asserted that Member of Parliament Shashi Tharoor should be taken into custodial interrogation.
“I have been in touch with Rajnath ji since July 2014 and whatever forward movement has taken place so far, it’s because he has been taking precaution to see that no political interference takes place. He has told the Police Commissioner not to allow any politician to intervene, as it could block the progress of the investigation,” Swamy told to ANI.
According to Swamy, there was no progress in this case since the FBI report in January. Swamy said that it is still to be noticed that Sunanda’s husband has been giving contradictory statements to the police.
“He is the principal person, who was witness to whether she was dead or alive. He is the husband and there are many such situations that he has to explain. He should have by now been taken into custodial interrogation or be made to take a lie detector test or a narco test but nothing has happened,” added BJP’s newly nominated member to the Rajya Sabha.
This is not the first time that the Swamy has written to Home Minister over Sunanda’s death. He wrote 2 such letters to Rajnath in July and December 2014 to investigate the case. But, home ministry gratified at that point.
However, Swamy now wants a SIT to probe this case.

Commenting over the delay of investigation, Swamy said, “The murder happened in January 2014 and we still don’t have a clue in 2016...that cannot go on.”
The BJP leader, who is trying to assert the actual cause of death, had earlier alleged that Sunanda was killed in very “professional” way.
Earlier, Delhi police questioned Tharoor for nearly 5 hours in connection with the mysterious death of wife Sunanda.
During the interrogation, the Congress leader dismissed any foul play in his wife’s death, reports say.
Tharoor also claimed that Sunanda died due to medication and was quizzed on who purchased the medicines.
Speaking to reporters, Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi said, “He (Tharoor) was questioned, clarification was sought wherever required. We will analyse his (Shashi Tharoor) statements, and will proceed accordingly in the case.”
Last month, the final report by the AIIMS medical board stated that Pushkar died of poisoning caused by anxiety drug Alprax.
AIIMS experts also said that there could be chances of an injectable poison, in view of certain marks on Sunanda’s body.
Tharoor may have to undergo a lie-detector test in the coming weeks and investigators are expected to get the court’s permission to conduct a polygraph test.
