Dayashankar Singh, who was suspended from BJP for six years for comparing his derogatory remark against BSP supremo Mayawati, was on Saturday granted bail by a local court in Mau.

Additional District Judge of SC/ST Court Ajay Kumar granted bail to Singh on two surety bonds of Rs 50,000 each, government counsel Chedi Lal Gupta said.

Singh, vice-president of BJP’s Uttar Pradesh unit, had on July 20, called the BSP chief a prostitute for allegedly selling party tickets to aspiring candidates for next year’s state polls.

He was immediately suspended from the party following the incident and the BSP filed an FIR against him.

Singh was on the run for about a week before being arrested from Bihar’s Buxar on July 29 and lodged in Mau jail.

Meanwhile, the BSP termed the court order as ‘not in keeping with law’ and said it will be challenged in Allahabad High Court.

“The court in Mau granted bail to Dayashankar Singh in the matter of his derogatory remark against a BSP national president and former chief minister. As the order is not lawful, it will be challenged in the High Court,” senior party leader Satish Chandra Misra said.
