A day after Maoists killed 25 CRPF jawans in an ambush in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh, senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh today stoked a controversy with his remark that the ‘ruling BJP had a deal with Maoist rebels in Chhattisgarh’.
Speaking to reporters here, Singh said that he stood by earlier comments that ‘CM Raman Singh and the BJP won elections in the state from the red corridor’ because there was ‘some understanding between them’.
Urging the government to take the villagers into confidence, he said, “I have been saying this from the very beginning that the Naxals problem will not be solved in these Naxalite belt till the villagers are not be taken into confidence .There is not a single faction of administration there. Discussions should take place with all political leaders and some new policies should be introduced.”
“Neither corruption nor Naxal problems got solved post demonetisation. Neither stone pelting nor flow of black money could be checked following demonetisation. Demonetisation was just an outcome of arrogant government,” he added.
Singh’s comments came just hours after Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh termed the massacre of 25 CRPF personnel ‘cold blooded murder’ and said that the government will review its anti-Maoist strategy.
Singh, who visited the state capital to pay tributes to the dead CRPF troopers at their camp, also said that Maoist outfits were against development.
On Monday afternoon, 300 to 400 Maoists, including women, ambushed a CRPF contingent in a forested patch in Chhattisgarh, killing the troopers and escaping with their AK-47 assault rifles.
