Ahmedabad: Launching a fresh attack on Congress leader Sonia Gandhi, BJP chief Amit Shah today said the erstwhile "Sonia-Manmohan Singh" government made new records in corruption with scams like AgustaWestland taking place under its guard even as he asserted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will play a "long inning" at Centre.

Shah, known as the BJP's master strategist, said the saffron party was set for a "new start" in the five states going to polls tomorrow.

"In their 10 years of power at the Centre, the Sonia-Manmohan government made new records in corruption. In space, we had ISRO scam (and) 2G scam, in sky the Agusta Westland scam (and) Air India plane purchase scam, on land the Adarsh Society scam (and) Commonwealth games scam, in ocean a submarine scam, and in underground the coal mine scam," Shah quipped.

He said the common people offered the saffron party the mandate to rule as they were "fed up" with the widespread corruption.

"In two years of our government, opposition cannot question us in terms of corruption," the BJP chief said on the eve of the Modi government completing two years in power on May 26.

He said, "the Sonia-Manmohan government of 10 years had put a big question mark on the country's future in front of the world.

"When Atalji (Atal Bihari Vajpayee) was prime minister in 2002, he had said that the 21st century will be India's century. But the Sonia-Manmohan government that followed for 10 years put a big question mark on the country's future. In two years, Narendra Bhai has again taken a big stride in making India the world's leading country," he said.

He said Modi will play a long inning at the Centre like he did in Gujarat as Chief Minister.

"The way Modi government has started working at the Centre, I have full faith that like Gujarat, Narendra Modi will play a long innings at Centre as well.

"This is a record in the history of BJP that wherever public offered it mandate to form government, it has given political stability, and wherever there is a BJP government, party workers ensure that the party forms the government again and again," he said.

Shah said the BJP dispensation under Modi gave a "public-oriented, corruption free, pro-poor and strong government".

The BJP chief, who campaigned extensively in Assam, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry, said, "the elections in five states have finished. None of these are BJP states. I have been back from election campaigns and I can say that in all five states BJP is set for a new start".

He was in the city to attend an event related to a cricket tournament being organised by the BJP's city wing.

Called 'Karnavati Premier League', the cricket matches will be played among teams formed at ward-level for two weeks beginning today.
