Congress president Sonia Gandhi, who fell ill during her roadshow in Varanasi on Tuesday and was taken to Delhi immediately, will be away from active politics for at least six weeks, sources said.
Sources said that she is likely to remain at the Sir Ganga Ram Hospital for a week where she was yesterday treated for a shoulder injury.
She will not be attending public meetings and rallies at least for one and a half months after being discharged from here, they said, adding that the party has already cancelled all her programmes scheduled for next week.
The Pradesh Congress Committees have also been asked not to plan any rallies or meetings for next six weeks, they said.
The 69-year-old leader will also skip the August 15 celebrations at the party’s national headquarters at 24, Akbar Road, in the national capital. This year, senior party leader Motilal Vohra and party vice-president Rahul Gandhi will unfurl the tricolour on the occasion of the 70th Independence Day.
The Congress president will, however, be available for meetings at her residence, sources said.
Yesterday, Sonia Gandhi was successfully treated for a shoulder injury that she sustained during her roadshow. Doctors treating her at the Ganga Ram Hospital said that all her health parameters are showing improvement. She was shifted to a private ward of the hospital from the ICU last evening.
