Soft diplomacy: PM Modi’s ‘Mann Ki Baat’ to be aired in neighbouring Bangladesh

Starting this month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's monthly radio programme 'Mann Ki Baat' will now be broadcast in neighbouring Bangladesh in Bangla language.

New Delhi: Starting this month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's monthly radio programme 'Mann Ki Baat' will be aired in neighbouring Bangladesh in Bangla language.

According to a report in Economic Times, All India Radio (AIR) has made all arrangements to translate ‘Mann Ki Baat’ in Bangla language and air it on its Bangla language service channel Akashvani Maitree.

Besides, the Prime Minister will also answer the questions of Bangladeshi citizen in his radio address, it said, adding that Akashvani Maitree has already initiated the process to tie up with local Bangladeshi FM channels.

The motive behind this ‘soft diplomacy’ is to strengthen bilateral ties between the two sides, and break the stranglehold of Pakistani and Chinese radio channels in the country, said the report quoting an official.

This will be also the first time that the PM’s address will be aired in a foreign country.

In his upcoming ‘Mann Ki Baat’, the Prime Minister is likely to talk about Indo-Bangladesh ‘relationship and friendship’.

The Prime Minister’s ‘Mann Ki Baat’ is aired in Hindi, English and several regional language of India on All India Radio on last Sunday of every month. The programme, which was officially launched on October 3, 2014, aims to deliver the Prime Minister's voice to the general masses.
